Understanding the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds reasonable and necessary supports for Australians with permanent and significant disability. If you’re new to the NDIS, here are the basics.
Who is eligible?
- You are under 65 when you apply
- You are an Australian citizen, permanent resident or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
- You have a permanent and significant disability that affects your daily life
Check eligibility or apply via the NDIS website or call 1800 800 110.
How your funding works
Your NDIS plan may be managed in one of three ways:
- Self-managed — you pay providers and claim from the NDIA yourself.
- Plan-managed — a plan manager pays providers from your funding.
- NDIA-managed — the NDIA pays registered providers directly.
